Summer in the City started off as “Gee, I should probably get some volunteer hours.” This is how it started for most of us actually. After you meet your first ‘buddy’ or leave ‘your own’ mark on a mural in Detroit, your hooked. I had to go back everyday my first summer in 2009. I just loved Detroit so much, and SITC was the perfect organization for me because it involves just about everything in Detroit.
Even thought I’m heading off to college in the fall – Go Blue! – there is no other way I would rather spend my summer than getting dirty in Detroit. See you soon!

For many kids in Detroit, an empty stomach stands in the way of a successful summer. At Summer in the City, we play hard and believe that tired campers are happy campers. And healthy snacks are the fuel everyone needs to power through those long summer days.
Summer in the City is always looking for ways to improve the experience of our participants and this summer I hope that, with your support, we can have more healthy snacks for some of the smallest but most determined Detroiters.
