Though I have spent the last three academic years in Grand Rapids, there is nothing I enjoy more than returning to my Detroit roots. Last summer was my first involved with SitC, and being the sucker for adorable kids, Justin Beiber, and Chewy bars that I am, I enthusiastically return for my second summer. This organization packs a mighty punch, and I am inspired daily by all the rad people I have met. I look forward to another summer rocking and/or rolling with Summer in the City!
Shayne’s SITC Pics!
No doubt, Summer in the City is a tight community. But the sense of community felt in one particular youth site really impacted me– the sense of community at Latino Mission Society. Those enrolled brought brothers, sisters, and cousins with them daily. Parents coming in the morning to drop their kids off would sometimes stay an hour to chat. It’s hard not to feel part of a family at LMS. Not to mention the many kids who came out were absolutely fantastic. There were so many signed up last year we had to squeeze everyone into our rooms, which could have potentially been problematic, but the kids just went with it and we had a great time. With your help, we could have enough supplies to extend the program at Latino Mission Society, seeing how much further this community could flourish. We have the will, so help us on our way!
