I grew up in Farmington Hills and went to the University of Michigan. After graduating, I moved back in with my parents and spent a year working at various law offices accumulating very important skills, including, but of course not limited to, scanning, alphabetizing, data entry, and answering phones.
I left Michigan, and like so many of us who grow up here, I promised to never return. After doing some traveling, I moved to New Orleans where I worked at the Greater New Orleans Fair Housing Action Center. This experience, while also improving my phone answering skills, exposed me to a deeper analysis and understanding of systemic inequalities in America. All of that is to say, it took moving to New Orleans for me to realize I wanted to live in Detroit.

At the heart of Summer in the City, there is a deep, driving sense of compassion and curiosity. It is my privilege this summer to spearhead R&D (Reflection and Dialogue), a program to help Crew Members and volunteers develop the tools they need to understand the Detroit’s past and dream big for its future.
I am excited to spend this summer imparting what little knowledge I may have to others and dragging a chair to my front porch daily to watch the happenings at Clark Park.
