What do you do when your best friend comes up with some crazy idea to get high school kids to volunteer in Detroit? If you are me (and, in this case, it may be good that you are not) the only thing to do is demand 1000 business cards and join the fun that never ends.
Amazingly, what started out as 3 friends out to do good has transformed into an unstoppable do-ocracy where young people from all different backgrounds can come together to make big things happen in Detroit. Without these dedicated young lovers of Detroit, Summer in the City would never have grown into the inspiring program it is today.
Thank you to all who have believed in us and joined with us. It is truly inspiring.

An HQ For SITC!
To make the next 10 even greater, we are looking for a permanent home for the organization. The energy, creativity and optimism of our young leaders – all unpaid or underpaid – has sustained our growth and evolution. We want to support their sweat equity through a Residential Leadership Headquarters, where directors will live and others can gather year-round to to break bread and brainstorm.
This would be, to say the least, a big transition for our young organization, but – with very specific criteria for all aspects of the endeavor – we believe that when, in 2112, we hop off our hover boards and pause to reflect on the unprecedented work Summer in the City did in its second decade, it will be clear that there is, indeed, no place like home.
