Summer in the City was never supposed to be a very big part of my life. I stumbled upon it towards the end of my sophomore year of college, and figured it might be a good way to do what I loved most: working with children – in a city that I was fascinated with, but honestly didn’t know too much about. The plan was to work with SITC to gain a little bit of exposure to urban education, and to move on to a snazzy internship the next year.
Needless to say, the plan didn’t work out accordingly. To my grave misfortune, I fell in love with Detroit. I met some of the most interesting people, whether it be my passionate coworkers who worked tirelessly to revitalize a city they, too, had grown to love, or the children, who although were not dealt the lushest of opportunities in life, were able to see the good in everything, especially in Detroit.
I’m back for round two this year, and couldn’t be more excited. SITC has become an integral part of my life, and I can’t wait to bring smiles to the faces of Detroit’s children every single day.

Even better, with your support, we can work to provide healthier snacks and lunches for the children each and every day. Making kids aware of their activity levels will only make them more excited to pursue healthier activities, and the hope is that SITC’s kids will pave the way to healthier lifestyles this summer!
