Andover High School

Since: 2002
The original carpool site, located at the alma mater of two of Andover’s three founders. The site has been a SITC magnets since the earliest days, overcoming even the most severe Telegraph construction. Email Emily with questions.

Groves High School

Since: 2003
Former stomping ground of the third and beardliest SITC co-founder, Groves had modest beginnings but has since emerged as a powerhouse for volunteers and crew members alike. Don’t expect the closed Southfield Freeway to slow this caravan down a bit. Call or email Emi at 248-990-0051
Pinpoint: The main lot by the traffic light.

North Farmington High School

Since: 2003
North burst onto the scene with a thunder back in ’03 and then, one day, everyone vanished during what turned out to be band camp. In the summers since, the North Crew has diversified beyond marching band to all variety of nerds. Call or email Ilene at 248-302-6785
Pinpoint: The student parking lot on the side of the school.

Oak Park Public Library

Since: 2005
In addition to all the wisdom gained through library osmosis, the Oak Park carpool site boasts a diverse group of volunteers from south Oakland County, Northwest Detroit and various points along the 696 corridor. Call or email Jenny at 248-990-0818
Pinpoint: Strategically small parking lot across from the school.

Troy High School

Since: 2008
Added by popular demand back in aught-eight, Troy has distinguished itself as, among other things, a hotbed for Summer in the City painters. There is nary a mural we’ve painted that doesn’t have the Troy touch. Call or email Caitlin at 248-790-1000
Pinpoint: The large student parking lot.

University Preparatory High School

Since: 2005
Back before everyone had midtown mania, SITC volunteers were congregating at this site, nestled comfortably between Wayne State and New Center, before fanning out to sites throughout Detroit.

Renaissance High School

Since: 2003
Looking to make a big splash this summer, Renaissance fills an important gap in making Summer in the City accessible to Detroit volunteers. Many current and prospective volunteers in Northwest Detroit who previously had to venture down to Uprep or out to Oak Park now have a carpool site in their backyard. Call or email Henry at 313-384-2321
Pinpoint: Main parking lot toward Outer Drive.

Grosse Pointe North High School

Since: 2011
Finally, a Summer in the City foray to the east side. Of course, SITC has a long tradition of east siders, including COO Caitlin, but they now have a carpool site to call their own and we expect a big turnout and impact in response. Call or email Caitlin at 248-790-1000
Pinpoint: In the small lot on Morningside Drive.

Latino Mission Society

Since: 2011
The first of its kind – a project partner site turned carpool site. We are expanding our youth program at LMS to run all summer, so volunteers will now have the option of meeting there daily. They can stay and play with the kids there or shuttle to a nearby mural or garden.
Pinpoint: Inside the building or on the front stoop.
